Paris AI Summit: Modi, Macron Lead Discussions on AI’s Impact and Ethical Development
Paris, February 10, 2025 — The third edition of the AI Action Summit has officially commenced in Paris, bringing together world leaders, policymakers, industry executives, and researchers to address the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on society and the global economy.
The two-day event, held at the iconic Grand Palais, will focus on five key themes: public interest AI. the future of work, innovation and culture, trust in AI, and global AI governance.
The summit is co-chaired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron, with notable attendees including U.S. Vice President JD Vance, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Microsoft President Brad Smith, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and China’s Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing. Over 800 participants from governments, academia, NGOs, and the private sector are expected to engage in discussions aimed at shaping the future of AI development and deployment.
The summit aims to address critical challenges such as AI’s impact on labour markets, its role in economic development for emerging economies, and the ethical considerations surrounding its rapid deployment. A major highlight will be the unveiling of the first-ever International AI Safety Report, backed by 30 countries and organizations like the OECD and UN.
Additionally, a multilateral agreement on mitigating AI’s environmental impact is expected to be signed.
Side events include a Business Day at Station F and discussions on AI’s role in democracy and sustainability at institutions like École Normale Supérieure.
The summit builds on previous editions held in the UK (2023) and South Korea (2024), reflecting growing international efforts to establish governance frameworks for this transformative technology.
As AI continues to revolutionize industries such as healthcare, education, and labour, leaders emphasized the importance of balancing innovation with ethical considerations.
