Paul Onuachu Seals Permanent Move to Trabzonspor in Three-Year Deal
Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu has officially signed a three-year contract with Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor, marking his permanent return to the club after a successful loan spell.
Paul Onuachu, 31, has completed a permanent transfer from Southampton FC to Trabzonspor, ending weeks of intense negotiations between both clubs.
The towering forward had impressed during his previous loan stint with the Turkish side, netting 17 goals in 25 matches.
Despite managing just four goals in the Premier League for Southampton during the 2024/25 season, Onuachu’s performance during his earlier time in Turkey made him a priority signing for Trabzonspor ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
The deal was confirmed after Southampton agreed to the terms set by Trabzonspor, following earlier setbacks due to what the Turkish club described as “changing conditions and unrealistic demands.”
Trabzonspor unveiled Onuachu earlier this week, sharing a video of his arrival on social media. In the clip, the Nigerian international expressed his excitement, saying: “Hello Trabzonspor fans. I’m on my way to join you guys. I hope to see you all at the airport. Bize Her Yer Trabzon.”
Onuachu touched down in Turkey on Wednesday to finalize the deal and becomes one of the club’s latest reinforcements, joining newly signed Joaquin Pina, with the club also closing in on a deal for defender Jean-Charles Castelletto.
The Super Eagles star is expected to play a key role in Trabzonspor’s push for domestic and European success this season, with fans hopeful he can replicate or exceed his previous goal tally.
Onuachu joined Southampton in 2023 but struggled to find his form in England, especially as the club battled and ultimately succumbed to relegation from the Premier League. His time in Turkey, however, had been a stark contrast, with his height, aerial dominance, and finishing ability earning him praise.
While Onuachu is yet to address the media formally, his message to fans shows he is eager to make an impact in his second spell. Trabzonspor, on the other hand, hailed his return as a strategic move to boost their attacking options.
