PDP Calls Emergency Meeting to Address Internal Conflicts and Prepare for Upcoming Elections

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is convening an emergency meeting to address internal conflicts stemming from recent defections and concerns over the party’s performance in local elections. This critical gathering aims to strategize for upcoming elections and restore unity within the party.

The decision to hold an emergency meeting follows a series of defections that have shaken the party’s foundation. Recently, several lawmakers defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing internal divisions as their primary reason for leaving. This mass exodus has raised alarms among PDP members about the party’s leadership and direction.

During the emergency meeting, party leaders will discuss strategies to regain lost ground and address grievances from members dissatisfied with the current leadership under acting National Chairman Umar Damagum.

Many party stakeholders have expressed concern over Damagum’s handling of internal matters, particularly his failure to organize a national convention to elect new leadership.

Kola Ologbodiyan, a prominent PDP member, emphasized the urgency of this meeting, stating that it provides an opportunity for aggrieved members to voice their concerns and seek resolutions. He noted that many within the party are calling for a return to democratic principles and good governance.

In addition to the emergency meeting, the PDP is also preparing for a scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on October 24, 2024.

This meeting is expected to further address internal disputes and solidify plans for upcoming elections. Stakeholders have urged that this NEC meeting must proceed as planned to ensure all voices are heard and issues are resolved.
