PDP Chieftain Accuses INEC of Colluding with APC to Block New Party Registrations

Ibrahim Kalgo, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is working in concert with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to prevent the registration of new political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on The Morning Brief programme on Channels Television, Kalgo criticized INEC for what he described as a deliberate refusal to process over 70 applications submitted by various political groups seeking recognition as official parties.

Kalgo argued that the electoral commission’s inaction signals a deeper political agenda. “INEC is not just being biased it is afraid. The coalition of political actors trying to register new parties is a direct threat to APC’s hold on power come 2027,” he stated.

According to him, the refusal to register the coalition despite multiple valid applications contradicts INEC’s role as an independent electoral body. “Instead of maintaining neutrality, INEC appears to be aligning itself with the ruling APC,” Kalgo asserted.

He further challenged INEC’s handling of the registration process, questioning the rationale behind rejecting all 70 applications. “Is INEC suggesting that none of these applications met the legal requirements?” he asked.

Kalgo also cited electoral guidelines which, he claims, support automatic registration of a political party if INEC fails to act on an application within 90 days. “Legally, if no response comes from INEC after 90 days, the party is assumed to be registered,” he explained.

The PDP chieftain accused the APC of fearing a united opposition, claiming that Nigerians are eager for political change. “This government has failed. Two years into its tenure, there’s nothing tangible to show. What we’re seeing is suffering, rising unemployment, and avoidable deaths,” he lamented.

He concluded by reaffirming the coalition’s resolve to ensure INEC registers their party. “We will continue to push for the recognition of this coalition because Nigerians deserve a real alternative in 2027,” Kalgo declared.
