PDP Disciplinary Committee Clarifies Reasons for Not Addressing Cases of Atiku, Wike.

The National Disciplinary Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that its actions are limited to individuals who have formal petitions filed against them.

Chairman Chief Tom Ikimi made this announcement during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.

When questioned about the committee’s handling of allegations of anti-party activities dating back to 2015, which have implicated notable party figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Senator Bukola Saraki, and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, Ikimi clarified that the committee’s jurisdiction extends beyond the 2023 elections.

He explained, “Our committee cannot take action regarding behaviors from years past unless there are petitions submitted to us. We do not initiate petitions ourselves; we only respond to those that are brought to our attention.

Therefore, without a petition against any individual, we will not take any action, as that falls outside our mandate.”

Ikimi also noted that the committee was prepared to hear from former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom and National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, but both were unable to appear.

He added, “We reviewed the petitions scheduled for hearing; one involved Senator Anyanwu, and the other concerned several members from Benue State, including former Governor Ortom.

While we had communicated and confirmed the petitions reached them, we could not proceed due to their absence. We received a medical report from Senator Anyanwu and Ortom’s claim of not receiving the petitions.”

In light of this, the committee has postponed the hearings by two to three weeks to ensure all parties can participate. The next hearing is scheduled for March 4, with the committee committed to fairness and due process for all involved.
