PDP Minority Leader Talks Underway to Bring Peter Obi and Goodluck Jonathan Back for 2027 Presidential Race

Senate Minority Leader and senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member Abba Moro has revealed ongoing talks aimed at bringing former presidential candidate Peter Obi and ex-President Goodluck Jonathan back to the PDP fold to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on Channels Television’s “Politics Today,” Moro disclosed that certain individuals are engaging with Obi, encouraging him to “come back home” to PDPwhere he could have a strong chance at securing the party’s presidential ticket.

Moro acknowledged the unpredictability of politics but affirmed that efforts are underway to unite the figures within the party’s framework.

Regarding Jonathan, the former president, Moro confirmed that conversations are ongoing about his potential return and presidential bid, though constitutional concerns and political opposition continue to surface.

Moro cited the precedent from Jonathan’s 2015 run which faced legal challenges but was eventually upheld.

Moro further stated that PDP plans a careful evaluation of all aspirants, including current interested candidates like Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to field a strong contender capable of challenging the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC).

The remarks come amid PDP’s strategic preparations following what Moro described as errors in the 2023 elections showing the opposition party’s determination to reclaim influence in 2027.
