PDP Moves to Reunite with Peter Obi, Admits Underestimating His 2023 Impact

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed ongoing efforts to reconcile with former vice-presidential candidate and Labour Party leader, Peter Obi, as part of its strategic planning for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Thursday, PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary Ibrahim Abdullahi revealed that the party is actively considering ways to bring Obi back into its fold, recognizing his significant influence during the 2023 elections.

“Peter Obi is our product, and the PDP indeed wants to get him back. He is a very great capital for any political party, and any political party that will have him will be to their advantage,” Abdullahi said.

He further admitted that the party had underestimated Obi’s electoral impact in 2023.

“The truth of the matter is, if he had not gone the way he did… and still generated over six million votes in spite of the rigging and frustration, Peter Obi is truly a political capital, no doubt about it,” he added.

Although Peter Obi remains with the Labour Party, he has shown signs of openness to a broader opposition coalition, notably one proposed by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Political analysts say Obi’s return to the PDP or alignment with a united opposition front could significantly reshape the political landscape ahead of 2027.
