PDP National Working Committee Endorses Fubara as Rivers Party Leader

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has praised Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, for his resilience during the ongoing political turmoil in the state, officially naming him the party leader in Rivers.

During a visit to Gov. Fubara, who also serves as Deputy Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, the NWC expressed appreciation for his efforts in restoring stability within the party amidst external challenges.

The NWC’s visit was part of a series of consultative meetings aimed at exchanging ideas and revitalizing the party. After a private discussion at Government House in Port Harcourt, PDP National Treasurer, Ahmed Yayari Mohammed, affirmed the party’s confidence in Fubara’s leadership.

Mohammed stated, “A court ruling nullified the disputed party congresses in the state, and alternative leaders were appointed to oversee the party’s affairs. We are here to recognize the governor’s determination in stabilizing and focusing the PDP in Rivers State.”

Before visiting Fubara, the NWC had met with several other state governors, including Sen. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, and Douye Diri of Bayelsa, as part of their initiative to unify PDP members and prepare for the 2027 elections.

He further detailed that the visit aimed to inform the public about a recent Court of Appeal decision reinstating Sir Ude Okoye as the National Secretary of the PDP.

Mohammed assured that the NWC supports Okoye’s leadership and is committed to collaborating with him to revitalize the party for future elections. He concluded, “No court has overturned the Court of Appeal’s decision, and there are no pending orders against it.

The NWC stands united in its support for the current National Secretary as we work towards ensuring that by May 2027, the PDP will reclaim its prominence in governance.”
