PDP Urges President Tinubu to Intervene in Edo State Crisis

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the state’s crisis, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government of disregarding the rule of law.

The PDP claims that the impeachment of the Oredo Local Government Chairman, Tom Obaseki, was carried out by 12 imposters posing as councilors.

Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, the state caretaker committee chairman of the PDP, described the impeachments as a “coup d’état” and stated that the development is worrisome.

He accused the Edo State government of using imposters to impeach council chairmen while intimidating and harassing others.

Tom Obaseki, the impeached chairman, insisted that he remains the duly elected chairman, claiming that the impeachment was a criminal act perpetrated by hoodlums and thugs.

He emphasized that allowing such impunity would set a dangerous precedent, undermining the democratic will of the people .

The PDP’s appeal to President Tinubu comes amid rising tensions in Edo State, with the party accusing the APC-led government of promoting lawlessness and disregard for the rule of law.
