“PENOKS-ABAKPA-UGWOGO-OPI NSUKKA ROAD: WHY OPPOSITIONS CANNOT STOP GOVERNOR MBAH’S DEVELOPMENT AGENDA”
By: Prince Ekene Nwanjoku.
The Enugu State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Mbah, has taken a decisive step in redefining the state’s infrastructural landscape with the construction and dualisation of the 43.7km Penoks-Abakpa Nike-Ugwogo-Nike-Opi Nsukka Road. This audacious intervention, designed with a structured implementation plan, is poised to drive economic activities, enhance security, and improve the living conditions of residents. The addition of streetlights and the realignment of sharp bends further accentuate the administration’s foresight in mitigating road mishaps.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Opi, amidst an array of political juggernauts and community stakeholders, Mbah reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive development. He posited that economic growth should not be selective, as every part of Enugu State must be strategically integrated into the transformation agenda.
The deplorable state of this road has, for years, subjected commuters to untold hardship. Accidents, criminal ambushes, and extended travel hours have been the order of the day. However, with the expansion and realignment of this corridor, residents can look forward to a safer, smoother, and more time-efficient commuting experience. This bold step shows the administration’s resolve to address real issues with pragmatic solutions. One of the cardinal advantages of this project is its capacity to unlock economic potential. Nsukka, a vital economic hub, is set to benefit immensely from the improved connectivity, booming trade, easing transportation of agricultural produce, and driving up investment prospects. As this administration prioritizes road expansion, the overarching goal remains to solidify Enugu State’s position as a competitive economic player in Africa .
Prior to the commencement of the road project, the government, in a rare show of sensitivity, meticulously engaged with affected property owners before commencing demolition. Partnering with Comag Construction Company, multiple consultations were held to ensure that all parties understood the necessity of the project. The demolition exercise, preceded by adequate notifications, was conducted with a clear understanding of legal and social obligations. This transparent approach speaks volumes about the administration’s commitment to due process.
Nevertheless, opposition forces, seeing the palpable progress, have resorted to a barrage of fabricated narratives aimed at discrediting this noble initiative. In their desperation, they have weaponized outdated footage and unrelated events, manipulating unsuspecting individuals to peddle baseless allegations. However, their theatrics are falling flat, as the evidence of development is too glaring to be ignored. These antagonists, instead of engaging in constructive opposition, have chosen the path of misinformation. Their campaign of calumny is premised on a flimsy foundation, incapable of shaking public confidence in the government’s well-defined agenda. Enugu people are discerning enough to differentiate between propaganda and progress.
A government’s performance is best assessed through visible impact, and the unfolding transformation of Enugu’s road network is a confirmation to purposeful governance. The prioritization of infrastructural growth is not just a promise but an ongoing reality that reflects a well-structured development paradigm. The strategic dualisation of this major road aligns perfectly with the broader vision of. A. 21st century economic rejuvenation.
Ultimately, the opposition’s desperate attempts at distortion will fail to gain traction. As the project nears completion and its benefits become undeniable, public sentiment will remain overwhelmingly in favor of the government’s transformative agenda. The reality on the ground is that Enugu State is witnessing an era of structured development, with this road project standing as an unmistakable marker of progress. The journey towards modernization and economic stability is well on course under Governor Peter Ndubisi Mbah, and the Enugu State Government is setting an enviable precedent. This administration’s focus on inclusive growth, security, and infrastructural expansion ensures that its legacy will be one of tangible progress, not mere political rhetoric.
It’s on this very premise that I urge all affected people whose structures or property are on the roadside to simply comply with the government’s discretion and description to make Enugu State one of the most significant states in the country. There’s no doubt about Gov. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s leadership methodology and its fast implementation. Let’s all support and rally around him for the betterment of Ndi-Enugu and Nigeria at large. These roads, when completed, will not just put Enugu on the map, but they will also enhance the state’s IGR, which aligns with the governor’s commitment to increasing the GDP of the state from 4.4 billion to 30 billion USD. So, let detractors stop the unnecessary distraction and support the administration for greater development.
Ndi Enugu,
Tomorrow Is Here!
