Peter Obi Likely to Rejoin PDP, Secure 2027 Presidential Ticket — Says Ex-Governor Modu Sheriff

Former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, has claimed that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is likely to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sheriff made the statement during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, revealing that based on information available to him, Obi is set to rejoin the PDP and may clinch the party’s presidential ticket.

Obi, who recently teamed up with key opposition figures under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, has expressed interest in contesting the 2027 presidential election. However, Sheriff’s remarks have fueled speculation about Obi abandoning the ADC coalition to seek a stronger platform in the PDP.

“Atiku has been Vice President before. For him, it’s either president or nothing,” Sheriff said. “Peter Obi ran under the Labour Party, but I’m told he will return to the PDP to contest. That leaves Atiku and (Rotimi) Amaechi. So tell me, which states do they control?”

Meanwhile, the Tinubu-led APC administration has mocked recent opposition alliances, labeling key figures like former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai as “internally displaced politicians” due to their frequent party switches.
