Peter Obi Reacts to Trump’s Threat on Nigeria, Slams APC Government Over Insecurity

Former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, has reacted to Donald Trump’s recent warning of possible military action in Nigeria.

Trump, in a post on Truth Social, threatened to target Islamic extremists allegedly responsible for attacks on Christians and instructed the US Department of War to prepare for potential intervention.

Responding on X (formerly Twitter), Obi condemned the killings and expressed concern over Nigeria’s security situation.

He criticized the APC-led government, highlighting what he described as a lack of competence, dedication, and patriotism in handling the nation’s growing insecurity.

“The US government’s declaration of Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ and the possibility of military action should alarm every concerned Nigerian,” Obi tweeted. He noted that while the current government did not create the insecurity, its failure to manage resources effectively and protect citizens has worsened the crisis.

Since May 2023, more than 10,000 people have reportedly lost their lives to violent attacks in Nigeria. While Trump’s statements have drawn international attention, the Nigerian government emphasized that any foreign military intervention would require approval from President Bola Tinubu.

Peter Obi: “The insecurity did not start with this government, but the absence of competence, commitment, and patriotism on the part of the APC-led administration is deeply concerning.”
