Peter Obi Reportedly Mulling Exit from ADC Coalition Amid Alleged Atiku Takeover – Kachikwu

Former ADC presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, has alleged that Labour Party’s Peter Obi is considering pulling out of the opposition coalition anchored on the African Democratic Congress (ADC), claiming it was secretly designed to promote Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential ambition.

Less than three weeks after a coalition of opposition politicians unveiled the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their chosen political platform for the 2027 presidential race, cracks appear to be emerging within the alliance.

Speaking during an appearance on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, Dumebi Kachikwu, a former presidential candidate of the ADC, claimed that Peter Obi also a former presidential hopeful and Labour Party leader has begun distancing himself from the coalition.

According to Kachikwu, Obi now realizes that the alliance was “packaged” solely to advance former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambitions.

“Someone like Mr Peter Obi now understands that the whole coalition was packaged for Atiku Abubakar,” Kachikwu stated, suggesting that Obi is seeking alternative political routes ahead of the next general election.

Kachikwu further alleged that Atiku and his loyalists have attempted to hijack the party’s structure by offering as much as ₦20 million to ADC state chairmen in a bid to force their resignation and install loyal operatives.

“They are offering some of the state chairmen as much as ₦20 million to resign their positions, which goes to show that their intentions are not honourable,” he said.

He challenged Atiku to publicly support the call for southern leadership, asserting that the presidency should remain in the South for at least another six years.

“If he disputes this, let him publicly declare that it’s time for the South to lead,” Kachikwu added.

Emphasising that the ADC is not for sale, Kachikwu insisted the party remains committed to promoting fresh leadership and will resist attempts by veteran politicians to exploit it for personal ambition.

“What we are seeing now is that other aspirants realise the coalition was no coalition it was just a vehicle for Atiku Abubakar’s ambition. But I still say this: the ADC will never be the vehicle for that ambition,” he concluded.
