Peter Obi’s Rising Support Base Could Derail Atiku’s 2027 Presidential Ambition — Bashir El-Rufai Warns
Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed concern over the growing popularity of Labour Party’s Peter Obi, suggesting it poses a significant threat to Atiku Abubakar’s chances in the 2027 presidential election.
In a post shared via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, July 31, 2025, Bashir noted that although Atiku remains a prominent political figure, his momentum may be hindered by Obi’s massive and loyal following.
“Atiku is still a force to be reckoned with. Many believe 2019 was his best shot, but some think this might be his moment. Still, Obi’s numbers and cult-like loyalty from youth make him a serious contender,” Bashir wrote.
He emphasized that Obi’s cross-generational appeal, particularly among the youth, cannot be underestimated going into the next election cycle.
“Obi, paired with a strong northern running mate, could defeat Pablo (a nickname widely used for Atiku) before our dear mother of the Nation, Aunty Remi, finishes her breakfast by noon,” he added humorously.
Bashir’s remarks have since sparked discussions online about shifting political dynamics and the potential reordering of power blocks ahead of the 2027 general election.
