Plateau to Enlist 1,000 Youths in Community Policing Drive to Boost Security.
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has revealed plans to recruit more than 1,000 youths into the state’s community policing outfit, Operation Rainbow.
He made the announcement on Sunday at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Jos during the commencement of the 2025/2026 Legal Year, a service attended by judicial officers, clergy, and legal practitioners to formally mark the new judicial calendar.
The governor described the event as one of thanksgiving and renewal, saying, “The God who has kept us this far will sustain us for the days ahead.”
Reflecting on the state of the judiciary, Mutfwang praised judicial officers for their resilience in the face of limited resources. He noted that his administration met a judiciary burdened with challenges but commended them for remaining steadfast and discharging their duties with dignity.
He assured that efforts are being made to improve the welfare of retired judges, disclosing that his government has begun paying their outstanding entitlements. “Though the process is ongoing, it has commenced and by God’s grace, it will be completed,” he said.
Mutfwang urged judicial officers to exercise discretion responsibly, warning that misuse of such powers weighs heavily on the conscience and before God.
On security, the governor announced the planned expansion of Operation Rainbow, explaining that over 1,000 youths will soon be recruited and posted back to their communities as both the first and last line of defense to support conventional security agencies.
He stressed the need to resist those who benefit from insecurity and called for unity among Christians as a force for the state’s development. “The body of Christ is one, and what binds us together is the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross of Calvary,” he added.
Reaffirming his commitment to transparency and good governance, Mutfwang said his only agenda is to make Plateau better than he met it. “Though there may be giants on our way to hinder, by the grace of God, we shall overcome,” he declared.
