Police Arrest 23-Year-Old Woman Over ₦24m Robbery and Kidnap in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old woman suspected to be involved in a robbery and kidnapping operation in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area.

According to a statement by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was apprehended by operatives attached to the 33 Police Station in collaboration with the Agunechemba Security Unit in Nkwelle-Ezunaka.

Ikenga revealed that the arrest took place in the early hours of Tuesday after the recovery of a Toyota Highlander SUV that had been snatched from the victim. The incident occurred when five armed men operating in a Toyota Corolla intercepted the victim at Nkwelle GRA Gate.

The suspects reportedly forced the victim into the boot of his vehicle and drove him to a bush in Umuoji Town, where they seized his phone and transferred ₦24 million from his bank account before abandoning him and escaping with the vehicle.

Following a report of the incident, the joint security team, guided by intelligence, tracked the suspects to Nawfia and later to Ogidi, where the gang opened fire on officers before fleeing. The stolen Toyota Highlander, a white vehicle with registration number RBC 649 CN, was recovered at the scene.

A female accomplice, identified as Okonkwo Onyinye, was later arrested at the site and is currently assisting police investigators in tracing the remaining gang members.

SP Ikenga added that police patrols have been intensified across the state ahead of the November 8, 2025, governorship election.

Meanwhile, the police recently repelled another armed robbery attack in Ezinifite Community, Nnewi South Local Government Area. The operation, jointly conducted by police officers and Agunechemba vigilante operatives, resulted in the death of one suspect during a gun battle, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

A pump-action gun and the body of the neutralized suspect were recovered from the scene.
