Police Arrest Seven Suspects in Connection with Murder of Port Harcourt Lawyer Bright Owhor

The Rivers State Police Command has announced the arrest of seven suspects allegedly involved in the killing of Bright Owhor, a 46-year-old lawyer who was shot dead in his residence on Market Road, Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt, on July 6, 2025.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the arrests were made after an intensive intelligence-led operation by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, which lasted more than ten days. The operation combined technical surveillance and fieldwork to track down the suspects.

“All individuals involved in the killing of Mr. Owhor were identified and apprehended through painstaking intelligence gathering,” Iringe-Koko stated during a press briefing on Monday.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects, aged between 22 and 34, played various roles in the murder including shooter, gang leader, arms supplier, getaway driver, and vehicle handler.

The suspects reportedly confessed to being members of the Deygbam Secret Cult and admitted to withdrawing money from the victim’s bank account following his murder. They also linked the incident to ongoing cult violence between the BS and G12 Deygbam factions in Diobu, Port Harcourt.

Police recovered several items during the arrests, including four locally made pistols, seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, two live cartridges, a minibus, a Toyota Camry, and an MTN SIM card allegedly used in the crime.

The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to bringing all those involved in the crime to justice and restoring security to the community.
