Police Boss Egbetokun Sends CP Shogunle to Secure Anambra Polls
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has appointed CP Abayomi Shogunle as the new Commissioner of Police in charge of Anambra State ahead of the governorship election slated for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
The deployment, announced on Tuesday by the state police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, aims to strengthen security operations and ensure a peaceful, transparent, and credible election across the state.
Ikenga revealed that CP Shogunle has already assumed duty and activated the IGP’s enforcement protocol for anti-electoral offences. The measures include zero tolerance for ballot snatching, vote-buying, political thuggery, and voter intimidation.
According to the statement, a total of 60,000 personnel from the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security will be jointly deployed to cover 5,720 polling units, inter-LGA boundaries, and collation centres across Anambra State.
The CP has also banned the activities of local vigilante groups such as Agunechemba, warning that only federal security agencies are authorised to provide election security. VIP movements with armed escorts or aides at polling and collation centres are also prohibited.
CP Shogunle urged political leaders, traditional rulers, and citizens to cooperate with security agencies to maintain peace before, during, and after the election.
