Police Clarify Enugu Crash: Fatal Truck Accident Not Linked to Dangote Industries

The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed that the truck involved in a fatal accident along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway does not belong to Dangote Industries Limited, but to Visco Investment Global Limited, an independent operator.

According to a police statement released on Wednesday, two separate accidents occurred on 3 September 2025 along the Ozalla/4-Corner axis of the highway, leaving 10 people dead and another 10 hospitalized.

The first incident, which happened around 9 a.m., involved a Howo truck carrying cement and branded with Visco Investment Global, a Toyota Corolla, a Foton bus, and a Daihatsu Hijet mini bus. The collision sparked a fire that destroyed the truck’s head and the Toyota Corolla, killing all five occupants of the car. Another victim in the mini bus also died on the spot.

Hours later, at about 3 p.m., a second crash was recorded in the same area. A Sino truck, also transporting cement for Global Investment, rammed into a tricycle, instantly killing its four passengers. Police confirmed that 10 other injured persons from both accidents are still receiving treatment in hospital.

Describing the crashes as “avoidable,” the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, ordered a full investigation and cautioned motorists to strictly observe safety measures, especially during the high-risk Ember Months.

In response to public speculation linking the tragedy to Dangote Industries, the company issued a statement distancing itself from the vehicle.

“Investigations have revealed that the truck belongs to Visco Investment Global Limited,” the company said. “We categorically reject any attempt to exploit such tragedies for malicious or financial gain.”

Dangote further emphasized its commitment to safety and corporate responsibility, while also pledging to work with authorities to investigate the unauthorized use of its brand identity.
