President Tinubu Appoints IBB’s Son, Muhammad Babangida, as Chairman of Bank of Agriculture

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Muhammad Babangida, the son of former military Head of State Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), as the new Chairman of the Nigerian Bank of Agriculture (BOA).

The move is part of a sweeping overhaul of leadership across several federal agencies aimed at revitalizing strategic national institutions.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Muhammad Babangida, 53, brings a strong academic background to the role. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Public Relations and Business Communication from the European University in Montreux, Switzerland.

He also completed an Executive Programme in Corporate Governance at Harvard Business School in 2002.

According to the presidency, the appointments are part of a broader strategy to infuse fresh leadership and drive innovation in institutions considered critical to Nigeria’s economic growth and public sector efficiency.

“These changes are intended to reposition these agencies for better service delivery and national impact,” the statement added.

The appointments come amid growing public calls for technocratic leadership and greater transparency in federal institutions.
