President Tinubu Honors Nigeria’s WAFCON Champions with National Awards and Generous Rewards

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on all 24 players of Nigeria’s victorious Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) team.

In addition to the prestigious national award, each player received a cash reward of $100,000 and a three-bedroom apartment under the government’s Renewed Hope Housing Scheme during a grand reception held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday.

The members of the technical crew were also recognized with a cash award of $50,000 each and national honours in appreciation of their contribution to the team’s success.

The Super Falcons secured Nigeria’s record-extending 10th continental title by staging a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Morocco the hosts, in the final held in Rabat last Saturday.

President Tinubu praised the team’s resilience, skill, and teamwork, saying they have inspired millions of Nigerians, especially young girls, by proving that their dreams are valid and achievable. He described their performance as a symbol of hope and unity for the nation emphasizing that the Falcons “have lifted the spirit of our nation” and serve as role models for future generations.

The reception was attended by notable figures including the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and Nana Shettima wife of the Vice President.

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum also announced an additional reward of ₦10 million for each player and member of the technical team further demonstrating the country’s pride and support for the team’s historic achievement.

This honour and generous reward package highlight the importance the Nigerian government places on the Super Falcons’ achievement and their role in advancing women’s football and national pride on the continent
