Prisons Officer Dismissed for Leaking Inmate Photos Online, NCoS Denies Conjugal Visit Claims

The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has dismissed one of its officers, ASC 1 Efe Onakpoya, for misconduct after he took unauthorized photos of an inmate and shared them online.

According to a statement released by the Service’s spokesperson, Abubakar Umar, the dismissed officer violated NCoS protocols by photographing inmate Ibuchi Okoro Eze inside the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, and posting the images on social media without approval.

The NCoS also addressed viral reports claiming the dismissal was an attempt to cover up an alleged incident where an inmate was taken out of the facility for a private conjugal visit.

The Service described those allegations as “false, malicious, and damaging to the integrity of the institution.”

Umar clarified that Onakpoya’s dismissal followed a thorough disciplinary process, and the decision was based solely on the misconduct involving unauthorized documentation and public sharing of inmate photos.

The NCoS emphasized its zero-tolerance policy for actions that undermine its professional standards.

“The Nigerian Correctional Service remains committed to discipline and professionalism. We do not operate a hotel or permit inappropriate conduct within or outside our facilities,” the statement added.
