Renowned Evangelist Uma Ukpai Reportedly Passes Away at 80

Nigeria’s Christian community has been thrown into mourning following reports that Reverend Dr. Uma Ukpai, the highly respected international evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association (UUEA), has passed away at the age of 80.

The news of his death was first shared by the faith-based media platform Therealchurchgist on Instagram, which described the preacher as a “Dynamic Kingdom General” who has gone to be with the Lord. According to the report, the revered cleric died in Lagos, although his family has yet to issue an official statement confirming or denying the report.

In a tribute post, the platform wrote:

“Evangelist Dr. Uma Ukpai goes to be with the Lord. He passed on to glory in Lagos at the age of 80. He was a beacon of light and a source of inspiration to many. He was among the founding fathers of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria and the founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association. Rest in eternal glory, God’s elect.”

A Life Dedicated to Faith and Service
Born on January 7, 1945, in Asaga, Ohafia, Abia State, Rev. Uma Ukpai was a towering figure in Nigeria’s evangelical movement. Through his global crusades, healing ministry, and charitable works, he touched countless lives across the world.

He established several faith-based institutions, including the Uma Ukpai School of Theology, the Uma Ukpai Polytechnic, and the King of Kings Specialist Hospital. His humanitarian programs, particularly in health and education, impacted thousands across Nigeria.

A passionate preacher known for his humility and compassion, Rev. Ukpai dedicated over five decades of his life to advancing the gospel, inspiring believers, and uniting Christians across denominations.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Philomena Ukpai, and their children.
