Rivers Crisis: Assembly Serves Gov Fubara, Deputy Notice of Misconduct Amid Impeachment Threats

The Rivers State House of Assembly has served Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, a notice of misconduct, sparking an impeachment process.

The notice, signed by 26 lawmakers, alleges gross misconduct by the governor, including reckless and unconstitutional expenditure of public funds, hindering the assembly from performing its constitutional duties, and appointing individuals to state government offices without required screening and confirmation.

The lawmakers have given Fubara and his deputy 14 days to respond to the allegations. If the allegations are proven, the governor and his deputy may be removed from office.

The development is part of the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, which has been characterized by a face-off between Fubara and the state legislature, as well as a long-standing feud with former Governor Nyesom Wike.
