Rivers State ADC Claims Over 800,000 Members, Welcomes Former Governors and Key Political Figures

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has announced that its membership has surpassed 800,000, marking a significant milestone in its political growth.

This was revealed by the party’s Rivers State Publicity Secretary, Luckyman Egila, during a media briefing held in Port Harcourt on Friday.

Describing the ADC as “a beautiful bride,” Egila highlighted that the party has attracted several notable political figures, including two former governors and two sitting senators, all of whom have officially joined the party and obtained their membership cards.

Among the high-profile new members are former Governors Rotimi Amaechi and Celestine Omehia; former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus; Senator Lee Maeba; and Senator Andrew Uchendu, who currently serves as the ADC Vice Chairman for the South-South zone.

Egila emphasized, “These persons have left their former parties and are now full members of the ADC. You only become a member after registering and being issued a membership card — all of them have completed this process.”

Other prominent figures who have joined the ADC include former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Okpara, and former Minister of Transport, Abiye Sekibo.

Expressing optimism about future growth, Egila said the party expects to attract even more influential politicians from other parties soon.

Highlighting the party’s robust grassroots presence, Egila stated that the ADC already had established structures across all local government areas and communities in Rivers State before this recent surge in membership.

“We have grown significantly from where we were. As of today, we have over 800,000 members in Rivers State alone, and that number continues to grow every day,” he said.

Reflecting on the party’s political journey, Egila reminded the audience that the ADC contested in the 2023 elections and continues to maintain strong support within the state.

He also addressed rumors of internal conflicts within the party, firmly denying any such issues.

“The African Democratic Congress is united. There is no crisis in our party. We are a party of integrity and do not tolerate any form of disrespect or conduct that would bring the party into disrepute,” he concluded.
