Rivers State House of Assembly Accuses Governor Fubara of Frustrating Budget Process

The Rivers State House of Assembly has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of frustrating the implementation of the Supreme Court’s judgment, particularly the aspect requiring him to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill to the lawmakers.

According to the Assembly, Fubara’s actions are delaying the budget presentation and putting the state’s finances in jeopardy .

The Assembly’s Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Dr. Enemi Alabo George, challenged the governor to produce evidence of a letter he claimed to have sent to the House, indicating his intention to present the appropriation bill.

George stated that no such letter was received by the House of Assembly, and the governor’s aides’ claim of sending the letter via WhatsApp was unprofessional and embarrassing .

The Assembly accused Fubara of frustrating their efforts to work with him to resolve the lingering crisis, particularly regarding budget presentation. They claimed that the governor rejected their letters and instructed ministries, agencies, and departments not to receive correspondence from the Assembly nor communicate with them .

George reminded the governor that the House of Assembly is an independent arm of government, not an appendage of the executive branch, and its members are not the governor’s slaves.
