Russia to Ban Foreign-Made Military Clothing from 2026 in Bid to Boost Domestic Production
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on Monday that will prohibit the procurement of foreign-made clothing and related gear for the country’s armed forces, starting January 1, 2026.
The new policy mandates that all uniforms and military apparel must be produced exclusively by Russian companies within the country.
By 2027, this requirement will also apply to the fabrics and knitted materials used in manufacturing these items, ensuring full domestic sourcing.
The decree aims to eliminate reliance on foreign suppliers for military clothing and materials, reinforcing self-sufficiency within the defense sector.
Military clothing and gear covered by the decree include uniforms, insignia, underwear, bedding, special clothing, footwear, equipment, and sanitary items.
These supplies are procured through Russia’s state defense order system.
