Ruth Eze Claims Lack of Trust and Animosity Among Actors in Asabawood

Ruth Eze, a renowned actress hailing from Nigeria, has expressed her belief that actors in the eastern region, specifically in Asaba, Delta state, exhibit a sense of caution towards one another.

This cautionary approach, according to her, stems from a lack of trust among the actors. As a result, she mentioned that no one on set engages in acts of generosity such as buying food for others, as the environment within the Asaba film industry is perceived to be somewhat unsafe, giving rise to the term “Asabahood.”

She also holds the opinion that the happiness of couples in a relationship or marriage should be treated as a private matter. She firmly believes in the sanctity of personal lives and advocates for keeping such matters confidential, away from the public eye.

“A lot of people don’t like to see others, especially in Nollywood in the eastern part of the country. We don’t like one another. I cannot expose my relationship, or who I am in love with.

“There is no actor in Nollywood, especially in Asaba (Delta State), that one would buy food for on set and they would eat. Everybody is scared, because of how dangerous that side is. When one goes for any production, one is usually scared. So, in order to be careful, one has to buy one’s food.”

During a recent interview, Ruth Eze elaborated on the reasons why she is unable to pursue marriage with her male counterpart, specifically highlighting her desire to marry a particular actor who is already married. In discussing her decision, the actress revealed that on set, it is common for girls to bring food to actors, irrespective of their marital status.

Ruth Eze expressed her preference for marrying a filmmaker rather than an actor in an interview with PUNCH. She explained her stance, emphasizing that there are certain actors within the Nollywood industry whose lifestyles and behaviors, if observed by the public, may affect their interaction and perception.

It is clear that Ruth Eze holds strong opinions about relationships within the industry and believes in maintaining boundaries between personal and public lives, ensuring that certain aspects of actors’ lives remain private.

“I can never marry a colleague. I can marry a filmmaker, but not an actor. If you see the things they do on set while filming, even the married ones, you wouldn’t want to have anything to do with them. Other girls come to look for them, and some even bring food.

“Imagine filming in Enugu and your family is in Asaba; you would see girls bringing food to them on set. Imagine being in love with such an actor and witnessing that. The only colleague I would have loved to get married to is already married.”
