SDP’s Adewole Adebayo Warns Tinubu: Solve Nigeria’s Security Crisis or Step Aside
Adewole Adebayo, former SDP presidential candidate, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate action against Nigeria’s worsening security situation or resign from office.
Speaking at the 2025 National Electoral Reform Summit, Adebayo warned that inaction could deepen insecurity and erode public trust in leadership.
“Nigeria cannot continue debating failures while citizens’ lives are lost daily. Use bullets to defeat terrorists or use the pen to resign,” he said, emphasizing the need for decisive leadership.
Adebayo also referenced recent comments by US President Donald Trump about attacks on Christians in Nigeria, urging Nigerians to avoid turning the issue into a religious conflict.
“International concern is welcome, but local leadership is key. Any help must benefit every Nigerian, not just one group,” he said.
Highlighting the ongoing challenges of banditry, insurgency, and farmer-herder conflicts, Adebayo stated that the Nigerian armed forces have the capacity to protect the nation if properly supported.
“The military can safeguard West Africa, but they cannot protect even their own barracks if restricted,” he added.
He concluded by stressing that if the government fails to protect its citizens, the presidency should step aside for competent intervention, calling for accountability and urgent action to restore security across Nigeria.
