Senate Unseals Natasha Akpoti’s Office After Six-Month Suspension
The National Assembly has officially reopened the office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, following the completion of her six-month suspension.
The unsealing was carried out on Tuesday by the Sergeant-at-Arms of the National Assembly, supported by security operatives who ensured the process was smooth.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had been locked out of her office since March 2025 after the Senate suspended her over allegations of misconduct.
The controversy began when she protested the reassignment of her seat by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a heated plenary session on February 20, 2025.
Although her suspension officially ended in September 2025, she faced fresh hurdles in resuming her legislative work. Just last week, the senator wrote to the leadership of the Senate, notifying them of her readiness to return to duty.
However, her request was initially declined, sparking renewed tension between her camp and the National Assembly.
The decision to unseal her office now marks a significant step toward her reinstatement, though political and legal battles still linger. Observers believe her return could intensify debates within the Senate, given her history of challenging leadership decisions.
For her supporters, the reopening of her office signals a potential comeback to active representation of Kogi Central after months of forced absence.
