Senator Ireti Kingibe: Appointing Wike Was Tinubu’s Biggest Mistake

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senator, Ireti Kingibe, has sharply criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to appoint Nyesom Wike as Minister, calling it the “greatest political misstep” of his administration so far.

In an interview with Arise TV on Monday, Kingibe described Wike’s leadership style as autocratic, accusing him of routinely ignoring constitutional guidelines and the rule of law.

She expressed concern over his unilateral actions, including reinstating defunct government agencies without seeking legislative backing.

“The minister doesn’t obey the rule of law. He acts on his own authority and ignores due process,” Kingibe stated.

She further alleged that Wike revoked 7,000 hectares of land originally allocated to the University of Abuja leaving the institution with just 4,000 hectares an action she claims violates the Land Use Act.

Highlighting the social impact of Wike’s policies, the senator condemned his decision to dismiss thousands of female street sweepers in Abuja without providing alternatives, leading to job losses among underprivileged women in the city.

“Instead of empowering the poor, he has taken away their source of livelihood,” Kingibe lamented.

She concluded by asserting that President Tinubu’s empowerment of Wike has not only harmed his administration’s image but has also deepened public dissatisfaction.

“If I were to list Tinubu’s errors, handing Wike so much power would top the list,” she said.
