Simeone Hails Raphinha After Barcelona Ends Atletico Madrid’s Winning Run

Barcelona halted Atletico Madrid’s seven-match winning streak on Tuesday with a 3-1 victory at the Spotify Camp Nou. Alex Baena initially put Atletico ahead, but goals from Raphinha, Dani Olmo, and Ferran Torres turned the game in Barcelona’s favor.

Despite the defeat, Atletico manager Diego Simeone remained composed and praised his team’s effort. “We started well, but they managed to hurt us inside with clever passes,” Simeone said, according to Diario AS. “In the second half, we tried to take control, but it didn’t come together. Still, I liked the team’s performance.”

Simeone singled out Barcelona’s Raphinha for special praise, expressing astonishment that the Brazilian star hasn’t won the Ballon d’Or. “Raphinha is an incredible player. He can play anywhere winger, midfielder, striker, even wing-back. He scores, creates, presses, and runs tirelessly. I don’t know how he didn’t win the Ballon d’Or; for me, he’s always my pick.”

The Atletico coach also noted concerns over injuries to Baena and Johnny Cardoso, who were both forced off during the match. “Baena is a key player for us, showing courage and versatility. Cardoso’s injury early in the match disrupted our plans, which was unfortunate.”

Atletico now turn their attention to a challenging LaLiga fixture away at Athletic Club in Bilbao, hoping to bounce back after the setback.
