Sonia Ighalo Slams Nigerians for Celebrating Buhari’s Death: “Show Some Humanity!”
Sonia Ighalo, former wife of Nigerian footballer Jude Ighalo, has publicly condemned the jubilant reactions of some Nigerians over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a strongly worded Instagram post, Sonia criticized the lack of empathy displayed by many online users following Buhari’s passing, urging Nigerians to remember the humanity of the deceased beyond political opinions.
“Must you all display your caprine tendencies even when calamity befalls?” she wrote. “This was someone’s father, husband, and son. While criticisms of his leadership are valid, celebrating his death misses our shared humanity.”
Sonia’s emotional message emphasized that death should be a unifying moment of reflection and compassion, regardless of a person’s public image or leadership record.
Her remarks sparked mixed reactions, with some agreeing on the need for empathy, while others insisted that public figures must face the judgment of history even in death.
