Soulja Boy Arrested on Weapons Charges Following Los Angeles Traffic Stop
Rapper Soulja Boy, born DeAndre Cortez Way, was arrested early Sunday morning around 2:30 a.m. during a traffic stop in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
Law enforcement officials discovered a gun in the vehicle where he was a passenger, leading to his arrest and booking at the LAPD’s Wilshire Division jail.
This marks Soulja Boy’s second arrest related to firearms, after a 2016 arrest for possession of a loaded gun while on probation.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney later declined to file charges due to insufficient evidence leading to his release after two nights in custody.
Soulja Boy, 35, is best known for his 2007 hit single “Crank That,” which topped charts and earned a Grammy nomination.
The rapper has recently faced legal issues including a 2025 civil ruling ordering him to pay damages related to assault and abuse allegations.
Authorities have not disclosed the reason for the traffic stop or details about other individuals in the vehicle. Soulja Boy’s representatives have yet to comment on the arrest.
