Sowore Alleges Tinubu’s Government Planning Death or Life Sentence for Nnamdi Kanu
Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has raised alarming allegations against President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the trial of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu.
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Sowore claimed that the government has secretly decided to either sentence Kanu to death or impose life imprisonment. He described the plan as part of a “high-level political conspiracy” masked as a judicial process.
“For the avoidance of doubt and to alert the public, it has become clear that a secret decision has long been reached within the @officialABAT regime regarding the fate of Mazi @NnamdiKanu,” Sowore wrote.
“The plan, devised through a high-level political conspiracy, is to either sentence him to death or condemn him to life imprisonment.”
Sowore further alleged that Justice James Omotosho’s pending ruling will be used to justify the predetermined outcome, claiming that Kanu’s refusal to open his defense may be interpreted as an admission of guilt.
He noted that a ruling is expected this November, drawing parallels with the 1995 execution of environmental activist Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight others under General Sani Abacha’s regime.
Describing the situation as a repeat of Nigeria’s dark past, Sowore suggested that Kanu’s trial has gone beyond legal proceedings, framing it as a moral test for both the Nigerian government and its citizens.
