Super Eagles Drop to 44th in FIFA Rankings, Gear Up for African Nations Championship 2025
Nigeria’s senior men’s national football team, the Super Eagles have dropped one place to 44th in the latest FIFA world rankings released on July 10, 2025.
Despite the slip from 43rd, Nigeria remains fifth in Africa trailing Morocco Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria.
The ranking decline follows a mixed run of international fixtures, including a 1-1 draw against Russia in a friendly match held at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium.
Analysts note that inconsistent results in recent qualifiers and friendlies have contributed to the slight drop in global standing.
With the FIFA ranking update serving as a wake-up call the Super Eagles are now turning their attention to upcoming competitions, particularly the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025.
The tournament, which features players based in domestic leagues, will see the Super Eagles B team showcase Nigeria’s homegrown talent.
Preparations are underway for the CHAN tournament, with coaches emphasizing the importance of strong performances to boost Nigeria’s football reputation and regain momentum on the continental and global stages.
Morocco continues to lead Africa’s rankings, positioned 12th globally, followed by Senegal (18th), Egypt (34th), and Algeria (36th).
Nigeria’s position at fifth in Africa reflects its status as one of the continent’s top football nations, despite recent challenges.
Football experts suggest that the Super Eagles must improve consistency and capitalize on upcoming fixtures, including World Cup qualifiers and CHAN 2025, to climb back up the rankings.
The team’s performance in these competitions will be critical in determining Nigeria’s future standing in international football.
As the countdown to CHAN 2025 intensifies, Nigerian fans remain hopeful that the Super Eagles will harness their talent and experience to reclaim their place among Africa’s elite.
