Super Eagles Face Uphill Battle for World Cup 2026 Spot After Poor Qualifying Results

Nigeria’s Super Eagles are set to face Rwanda and Zimbabwe in crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, as the National Sports Commission chairman Shehu Dikko has tasked the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to ensure the team’s qualification.

The Super Eagles will first confront Amavubi of Rwanda on Friday, March 21, at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

They will then host the Warriors of Zimbabwe five days later at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Currently, Nigeria is in a precarious position in Group C, occupying fifth place with three points after four games. The team has yet to record a win in the qualifying series, with three draws and one defeat.

To revive their World Cup hopes, some crucial steps for the Super Eagles include employing a technically sound coach, maintaining a watertight defense, hoping that South Africa, Rwanda, and Benin falter, and ensuring the availability of key players such as Victor Osimhen.

With six matches remaining, the Super Eagles aim to secure victories to improve their chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. The team needs to win the remaining six matches to emerge top of the group.
