Super Falcons Gear Up to Reclaim WAFCON Title in 2025

As the Nigerian women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, intensifies its preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), the team is focused on reclaiming its title as champions of Africa. The tournament is set to take place in Morocco from July 5 to 26, 2025.

In a bid to sharpen their skills and strategies, the Super Falcons are gearing up for a series of friendly matches, although no fixtures have been officially scheduled yet.

Their main rivals, the defending champions South Africa, are ramping up their preparations with two friendly games against Lesotho on February 22 and 25.

These matches will be crucial for South Africa as they aim to retain their title after winning the last edition.

The Super Falcons, who have dominated African women’s football with nine WAFCON titles, last lifted the trophy in 2018. Coach Randy Waldrum has emphasized the need for high-quality friends to ensure that the team is well-prepared for the challenges ahead.

Last year, Nigeria secured back-to-back victories against Algeria but suffered a narrow defeat to France in November, highlighting both their strengths and areas for improvement.

With the tournament approaching, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has assured that adequate preparations will be made for the Super Falcons.

NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau stated that they are committed to utilizing FIFA’s international match windows to schedule friendly matches leading up to WAFCON.

As anticipation builds for WAFCON 2025, the Super Falcons are determined to reclaim their status as Africa’s top women’s football team amidst fierce competition from rivals like South Africa and other strong teams across the continent.
