Super Falcons Parade WAFCON Trophy in Abuja Cementing Nigeria’s Legacy in Women’s Football

Jubilation is set to sweep through Nigeria’s capital as the Super Falcons, fresh off their record-breaking triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) prepare to parade the coveted trophy through the streets of Abuja today—a celebration of both sporting excellence and national pride.

Residents will have a unique chance to witness history as the Nigerian champions led by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) embark on a celebratory open-roof bus procession.

The parade will commence after the team’s scheduled arrival at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around noon with the procession charting a course across several iconic routes including Airport Road Berger Junction Maitama and Wuse Market before culminating at the Presidential Villa for an official reception by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The festivities come on the heels of a remarkable comeback by the Super Falcons, who overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat hosts Morocco 3–2 in a dramatic final at Rabat’s Stade Olympique.

The victory marks Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title further solidifying their status as Africa’s most decorated women’s side. Standout performances by Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi and an 88th-minute winner from Jennifer Echegini electrified fans across the continent and reaffirmed Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.

President Tinubu, who is expected to meet the team formally at the State House, praised the Super Falcons for their spectacular performance calling it a shining example of the resilience and determination that defines the Nigerian spirit. 

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu also applauded the Falcons for lifting the pride of the nation and serving as inspiring role models for millions.

The trophy parade, according to NFF officials is designed to allow as many residents as possible to share in the euphoria and witness firsthand the achievement that has united the nation in celebration.

As festivities unfold in Abuja, Nigeria not only celebrates another football title but also the growing legacy of the Super Falcons—a testament to their consistency, strength and unyielding spirit on and off the pitch.
