Survivor Recounts Harrowing Ordeal in Kwara Church Kidnap by Bandits
A worshipper of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Kwara State, has recounted the terrifying experience of being held captive by armed bandits in a forest hideout, following last week’s church attack. The survivor was among 38 church members abducted on Tuesday, November 18, and released on Sunday, November 23, 2025.
Speaking after his release, the victim described the forest camp as a heavily controlled territory where the kidnappers had full knowledge of every route, making escape nearly impossible.
“It was unimaginable,” he said. “The bandits openly told us that no one could slip away because they dominated the entire area. They knew all the routes across the surrounding bushes and even beyond Kwara.”
The survivor added that captives were under constant surveillance, leaving them in a state of fear and helplessness. The bandits reportedly bragged about their expertise in navigating the forest and their ability to track anyone attempting to escape.
The abduction occurred amid a rise in violent attacks across the country, sparking national concern about security in public spaces, including places of worship. Following their release, the victims are receiving medical and psychological care.
Authorities continue to investigate the attack and have intensified operations to locate the perpetrators and prevent similar incidents. The church community has expressed relief at the safe return of its members while urging stronger security measures to protect vulnerable communities.
