Suspected Vandal Electrocuted While Tampering With High-Voltage Power Tower in Ebonyi State
A tragic incident occurred in Ezillo, Ebonyi State, where a suspected vandal was electrocuted while attempting to tamper with a high-voltage transmission tower.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed the development, stating that the individual was electrocuted while interfering with Tower 34 along the Nkalagu–Abakaliki 132kV transmission line.
According to TCN’s statement, security operatives reported the incident to the company on July 19, 2025. It was further disclosed that the deceased was not acting alone, as his accomplices reportedly fled the scene following the fatal accident. The identity of the victim has yet to be confirmed at the time of this report.
The TCN emphasized that it is collaborating with security agencies to prevent similar acts of vandalism, which have long plagued Nigeria’s power infrastructure. The company noted that sabotage of this nature has severe consequences on electricity distribution and national grid stability.
This incident adds to a growing list of sabotage cases. In January 2025, vandals attacked a critical 132kV line supplying power to Abuja’s Central Area, causing major outages. Similarly, in November 2024, vandals destroyed multiple towers on the 330kV Lokoja–Gwagwalada line, severely disrupting bulk power transmission.
The TCN continues to call for stronger security measures and public vigilance to protect national assets from sabotage and ensure uninterrupted power supply across the country.
