Teachers’ Humiliation: Kwara PDP Slams SUBEB Boss, Demands Apology
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has strongly condemned what it called the humiliation and public disgrace of teachers by the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Raheem Adaramaja, during a school inspection.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, on Tuesday, the opposition party alleged that Adaramaja ordered teachers, including the Vice Principal of Government Day Secondary School, Amule, to sweep the school premises in front of students.
The PDP described the act as “a gross abuse of office and a shameful degradation of the teaching profession.” The party further accused Adaramaja of acting under the directive of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, claiming the teachers were humiliated despite explaining that the students had just returned from break.
“Is this the new standard for teachers in Kwara — to be stripped of dignity and forced to perform tasks meant for labourers before their students?” the statement read.
The PDP also criticised what it termed the administration’s “growing culture of arrogance and oppression,” alleging that the government had failed to improve the welfare and working conditions of teachers across the state.
The party called on the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) to defend its members and demanded a public apology from the SUBEB chairman, while urging the governor to take disciplinary action.
In response, Prof. Adaramaja dismissed the allegations as “political propaganda and deliberate falsehood.”
“Cleanliness and orderliness are part of a conducive learning environment. What happened was a simple reminder that teachers should lead by example — not an act of humiliation,” he said.
The SUBEB boss maintained that his actions were guided by discipline, accountability, and commitment to excellence, not arrogance or abuse of power.
