Tears as Daddy Fresh Opens Up on Two-Year Battle With Illness and Financial Hardship

Nollywood actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod has sparked an outpouring of concern after sharing a heartbreaking video of veteran singer Innocent Onyebuchi, popularly known as Daddy Fresh, lying weakly in a hospital bed.

Afod posted the video on his Facebook page, appealing to the public for help and urging that “Daddy Fresh must not die.” In the clip, the frail singer, dressed in a sleeveless blue top, initially struggled to recognize Afod when he entered the hospital room.

Speaking weakly, Daddy Fresh revealed that he has been bedridden for more than two years due to severe health complications affecting his kidneys, liver, and eyesight. “My blood is very low, about 25%. I need urgent blood transfusion about two or three pints. I can’t stand on my own without falling,” he said.

He also disclosed that his illness has drained his savings and left him facing eviction from his home. “I have a few days left in my house because of rent. They’ve given me quit notice. I don’t even know where to go next,” he lamented.

The veteran musician further hinted that his condition might have spiritual undertones, saying, “They just want to kill themselves, not me. My enemies are waiting to hear how far, but God will confuse them.”

“This is Daddy Fresh — a legend with an amazing voice. He has entertained Nigerians for decades. Now, he needs us. Please, entertainers, Nigerians, everyone — let’s not let this man die,” Afod pleaded.

Reports from February 2024 had revealed that Daddy Fresh had been battling a partial stroke for nearly 30 months. In an earlier interview, he expressed how simple acts of kindness, like calls or messages, gave him the strength to keep fighting.
