Temi Otedola Explains Why She Dropped Family Name for Ajibade After Marrying Mr Eazi

Actress Temi Otedola, daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, has revealed why she chose to adopt her husband’s surname, Ajibade, after tying the knot with Afrobeats singer Mr Eazi.

In an interview with the BBC on Wednesday, Temi explained that taking her partner’s name was a personal decision she felt was natural after marriage, while noting that every woman has the right to make her own choice.

“I’m now a married woman, the obvious thing for me is to take my husband’s name. But it’s my personal choice… I also respect a woman’s ability to choose,” she said.

Temi also highlighted the importance of privacy in her relationship, saying that moving in silence allows her to shape her own story and decide when to share details publicly. “Moving in silence allows you to build the story you want and share it when and how you’re ready,” she added.

Speaking on her father’s recently released memoir, Temi described it as a window into his long entrepreneurial journey, filled with lessons and wisdom gained over decades. She said that while she has benefited immensely from his guidance, the book now gives others the chance to learn from his experiences too.

Reflecting on her privileged upbringing, Temi admitted she would never deny the advantages it afforded her. However, she revealed that her father deliberately chose not to involve his children in his businesses a decision that initially disappointed her but later motivated her to pursue her own career path.

According to her, her father’s resilience during difficult times remains one of her biggest sources of inspiration.
