“That’s Not Justice” – Seun Kuti Slams FG Over Buhari’s UK Medical Bill, Questions Legacy
Afrobeats musician and activist Seun Kuti has sparked fresh controversy with a scathing critique of the Nigerian government following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, at a London medical facility.
In a viral video, Seun condemned what he described as the unjust luxury enjoyed by Buhari in death, revealing that the government allegedly spent £3,000 monthly on the late president’s healthcare abroad until his final days.
“Buhari died in comfort that’s not justice,” Seun said, voicing outrage that the same government failed to invest in hospitals for ordinary Nigerians. “They took care of him till the end, with public funds. Meanwhile, millions can’t afford decent healthcare here.”
Kuti, the youngest son of legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, also criticized the celebratory tone of some Nigerians online, arguing that rejoicing over an 82-year-old’s death does not amount to accountability.
“Did he face trial for his actions while in office?” Seun asked. “Death by old age is not justice. His legacy and the wealth he amassed remain untouched. That’s not victory — it’s avoidance of consequence.”
His comments have since triggered heated debates on social media, with many agreeing that successive governments have failed the people by prioritizing elite privileges over public welfare.
