“There’s Always Something Better”: Uriel Oputa Explains Why Decent Men Are Hard to Find in Nigeria
Reality TV star Uriel Oputa has shared her candid thoughts on the modern dating scene in Nigeria, highlighting why many beautiful, accomplished women remain single well into their 30s and 40s.
In a recent interview on Outside the Box, Uriel expressed concern over the scarcity of emotionally mature and committed men in Nigeria, blaming a cultural mindset that encourages men to always search for “something better.”
“You’ll see women who are 35, even 40, absolutely stunning and still single. Why? It’s hard to find a decent man in Nigeria,” she said. “A lot of men believe there’s always something better out there and that belief ruins everything.”
Uriel also opened up about her admiration for music executive Don Jazzy, acknowledging his influence while admitting he once said he wasn’t built for monogamy. “I love Don Jazzy. I know I’ll blow up, but he once said something about not being able to stay with one woman… that stuck with me,” she said.
Uriel’s comments sparked debate online, with many agreeing with her sentiments while others pushed back:
@_OnosOnos wrote: “It’s not about decent men being unavailable. The men they want are in short supply, hence the case for polygamy.”
@abazwhyllzz added: “Her idea of a decent man is probably just a rich guy. People like us, broke and funny, don’t even stand a chance.”
@tsetseSBM defended Uriel: “She’s speaking facts. A lot of women are single not for lack of desire, but because it’s hard to find emotionally intelligent, honest, and secure men. Nigerian men want peace and submission but offer chaos and instability.”
