Tight Security in Daura as Thousands of Police and NSCDC Officers Deployed Ahead of Buhari’s Burial

Security has been significantly heightened in Daura and across Katsina State ahead of the burial of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, with thousands of operatives deployed by both the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The Katsina State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Bello Shehu, confirmed the deployment as part of an extensive security strategy to ensure a peaceful and dignified burial for the late leader.

The deployment is being coordinated alongside other security agencies and led by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 14.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the Command expressed its heartfelt condolences to Buhari’s family, the government and people of Katsina State, and the entire nation. The statement paid tribute to Buhari’s decades-long service and contributions to Nigeria’s development.

Meanwhile, the NSCDC has also stepped up security efforts. State Commandant Aminu Datti announced the deployment of 2,807 personnel across key locations in the state. During a high-level security briefing at the NSCDC State Headquarters in Katsina on Monday, Datti outlined a robust multi-layered security plan.

The security measures include intelligence gathering, community engagement, surveillance operations, and inter-agency coordination. According to Datti, the NSCDC Commandant-General, Dr. Abubakar Audi, has personally directed that comprehensive security protocols be enforced throughout the funeral period.

Both covert and uniformed officers have been strategically positioned to maintain order and prevent any disruption to the solemn national event. Commandant Datti emphasized that all personnel are expected to maintain professionalism and work in close synergy with other agencies to ensure a hitch-free burial ceremony.

“The security of lives and property remains our top priority,” Datti stated. “All officers must operate with discipline and mutual coordination to honour the legacy of the late President.”

The state burial, scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, is expected to attract national and international dignitaries, requiring airtight security logistics. Buhari, who died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in a London hospital, will be buried in accordance with Islamic rites in his hometown of Daura.
