Tijjaniyyah Leader Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Passes Away
Renowned Islamic scholar and Tijjaniyyah leader in Nigeria, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, has passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at the age of 98.
Born on June 29, 1927, Sheikh Dahiru dedicated his life to Islamic scholarship. He memorized the Qur’an under the guidance of his father, Alhaji Usman, a respected Tijani muqaddam.
Over the years, he studied under eminent scholars including Shaykh Tijani Usman Zangon-Bare-bari, Shaykh Abubakar Atiku, and Shaykh Abdulqadir Zaria, eventually receiving the Tijjaniyyah Tariqah.
Until his death, Sheikh Dahiru served as deputy chairman of the Fatwa Committee of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), providing religious guidance for the Muslim community.
His influence extended across West Africa, and in 2009 he was briefly detained in Saudi Arabia during pilgrimage amid doctrinal tensions involving Nigerian Islamic groups.
Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi fathered more than 80 children and was married to the daughter of 20th-century Tijani leader Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse.
Their marriage was officiated at the Ibrahim Niasse Mosque in Kaolack, Senegal by Sheikh Baba Laminu Niasse.
His passing marks the end of an era for the Tijjaniyyah community, with tributes expected from religious leaders, students, and followers throughout Nigeria and beyond.
