Timi the Cobbler, Once Celebrated Online, Rearrested for Impersonation Scam
Timilehin Oyedele Godwin, a physically challenged cobbler who once went viral for his inspiring story of seeking love online, has landed in fresh trouble after being rearrested for impersonating women and using their photos to scam unsuspecting men.
Popularly known as Timi, he first gained attention in 2023 when he shared his struggles and desire for companionship on social media, earning admiration for his determination despite physical challenges. For a while, he was celebrated as a symbol of resilience.
However, his reputation took a sharp hit after an Instagram user, Damilola, accused him of stealing her identity. Timi allegedly created fake profiles using her pictures, catfishing men by posing as her, and even sending downloaded explicit photos to convince victims.
Screenshots showed that he operated multiple fake accounts across WhatsApp, Facebook, and TikTok, all using Damilola’s identity.
After being exposed, Timi confessed in a video, admitting to the impersonation and apologizing. But in private chats, he attempted to dismiss the matter as “an old case,” which further enraged victims and led to his rearrest. Authorities compelled him to issue another public apology, which has since gone viral.
The scandal has sparked disappointment among many who once supported him. One user wrote: “I’m so disappointed. I even patronized him before, but this is heartbreaking.” Another commented: “Your leg baddy, you still get mind dey scam? This is just shameful.”
What began as a story of resilience has now turned into controversy, leaving many Nigerians stunned at how quickly Timi’s inspirational tale has been overshadowed by scandal.
