Tinubu Boosts Military Firepower With New Air Assets To Crush Insurgents — Defence Chief

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has announced that President Bola Tinubu has approved the deployment of additional air assets to intensify the military’s campaign against insurgents wreaking havoc across Nigeria, especially in the northern region.

Speaking to reporters after a high-level security meeting at the Aso Rock Villa on Friday, General Musa emphasized that the military remains resolute in combating the recent spike in terrorist activities.

He revealed that new equipment has already been procured, reflecting Tinubu’s urgent directive to reinforce all theatres of operation.

“President Tinubu has not only approved more air power but also directed increased regional collaboration, recognizing that Nigeria’s porous borders are a key factor fueling these threats,” Musa said.

He also highlighted the importance of non-military strategies, including community development and support from state governments, as essential components in tackling insecurity.

The Defence Chief attributed the growing threat to a regional surge in jihadist movements across the Sahel, placing Nigeria under intense pressure.

He assured the public that the President is deeply engaged and determined to restore stability.

Urging citizens not to lose faith, General Musa called for continued public support and vigilance, stressing the dangers of fake news and misinformation, particularly misleading foreign content shared as local events.

He warned that national security is a collective responsibility: “If Nigeria fails, we all bear the consequences.”
